Arctic Cruise in Norway presents
Seven days. A handful of guests. One wild corner of the world. Sail beyond the roads, follow the weather, meet the Arctic on its own terms — and come home with a story that feels bigger than a holiday.
Not another sightseeing trip
LIVE A LITTLE is a collection of intimate Arctic expeditions for people who want to participate, not simply observe. Sail, hike, fish, cook over fire, step into cold water, follow wildlife, photograph the long night or sleep beneath the midnight sun. The exact route changes. The reason for going does not.
Choose your way into the wild
Each expedition starts and ends in Tromsø and uses the Lagoon 51 Arctic Dream as a mobile basecamp. The season changes the light, the landscape and the challenge — and completely changes the character of the week.
Mid October – Mid January
Orcas · Auroras · The Long Night
Follow the herring into the polar night — and the apex predators that follow them. When conditions allow, enter the water in a drysuit and meet wild orcas in their own world. Between encounters: remote anchorages, aurora, fishing, fire, sauna and the peculiar beauty of the long Arctic darkness.
October – March
Live and Breathe the Arctic
A progressive winter expedition built around doing things you may never have imagined yourself doing: snow travel, mountain days, open-fire cooking, cold immersion, aurora photography and an optional night in a snow shelter you helped create. The week builds steadily from comfort into capability.
June – August
Sail · Hike · Swim · Camp · Reset
Long Arctic days, remote beaches, mountain camps, glacier access, fishing, open-fire dinners and midnight sun. This is the lighter side of rewilding — still participatory and still remote, but shaped by green mountains, clear water and daylight that seems to have forgotten how to end.
Your moving basecamp
A 2024 Lagoon 51 catamaran turns the coastline into your home for the week. Warm cabins, generous indoor spaces and wide decks give you comfort between the wild parts, while the vessel lets the expedition reach anchorages, beaches and fjords far beyond the road network.
Why it feels different
Six to eight guests means the group can move with the weather, split when needed and share real moments without feeling processed.
Routes are planned, but never worshipped. Sea state, snow, cloud cover, wildlife and guest energy decide what makes sense each day.
Sail, cook, fish, hike, photograph, plunge, build or simply watch. Guests choose how deeply they want to participate.
Your expedition leaders
Two expedition guides with backgrounds spanning Arctic outdoor life, sailing, wildlife, photography, field guiding, marine safety and professional cooking. Their job is not to force the itinerary — it is to read the Arctic and create the best week possible from what it gives us.

LIVE A LITTLE · Arctic Cruise in Norway
Practical answers about our small-group Arctic expeditions from Tromsø, including seasons, fitness, wildlife, accommodation and choosing the right journey.
LIVE A LITTLE is a collection of seven-day, small-group Arctic expeditions created by Arctic Cruise in Norway. Each journey combines sailing aboard the Lagoon 51 Arctic Dream with outdoor experiences such as wildlife encounters, hiking, fishing, cold-water activities, fire cooking, photography and remote shore exploration. The exact activities vary by season and conditions.
Choose Bottom Of The Food Chain if orcas, polar night and auroras are the main dream. Choose Spirit of Shackleton if you want snow, winter skills, mountain days, fire, cold exposure and an optional snow-shelter night. Choose Summer Rewilding if you prefer long daylight, sailing, green mountains, glacier access, swimming and camping beneath the midnight sun.
All three LIVE A LITTLE expeditions start and finish in Tromsø, Northern Norway. The route then moves through different fjord systems depending on season, weather, sea conditions and the focus of the specific expedition.
Departures are intentionally small, normally with 6–8 guests. The small-group format allows greater flexibility, more personal guiding and easier adaptation to weather, wildlife and different guest capability levels.
The Lagoon 51 Arctic Dream is the main accommodation and mobile basecamp throughout the week. Depending on the expedition and conditions, guests may also have optional opportunities to camp ashore or sleep in a snow shelter. The vessel remains the secure and comfortable base.
Arctic Dream is a 2024 Lagoon 51 catamaran used as the expedition's moving basecamp. It provides heated interior spaces, cabins, bathrooms, large deck areas and the mobility needed to reach remote anchorages, beaches and fjords beyond the road network.
No previous sailing or expedition experience is required. Guests can participate in sailing and outdoor activities under guide supervision. The more demanding winter and hiking activities are adapted to the group and participation level.
A moderate level of fitness is preferable for full participation, especially on the winter and summer mountain days. However, participation is flexible. Guests can choose shorter or modified activities, and many experiences — sailing, wildlife watching, photography, fishing, meals, sauna and life aboard — remain accessible without completing every hike or cold-water activity.
Yes. Cold exposure, plunges, swimming, snorkeling, camping and similar activities are optional. The expeditions are designed so guests remain part of the group even when choosing a less physically demanding version of an activity.
On Bottom Of The Food Chain, snorkeling with wild orcas may be possible when orcas are present and sea, weather and safety conditions are suitable. Guests use drysuits and enter the water under guide supervision. Wildlife is never guaranteed, and animal welfare and safety take priority over entering the water.
Our dedicated orca expedition operates from mid October to mid January, when seasonal herring concentrations can attract orcas and humpback whales into Northern Norwegian waters. Their exact location and presence vary from year to year, so the route is adapted to current wildlife movements.
No. The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and cannot be guaranteed. During the darker-season expeditions, the crew uses weather, cloud-cover and aurora information to take advantage of good opportunities whenever they occur.
Weather adaptation is part of the expedition concept. The primary route is planned before departure, but wind, sea state, snow conditions, wildlife and guest capability may change the daily plan. Instead of forcing a fixed schedule, the guides choose the strongest safe alternative available.
Yes. Meals during the expedition are prepared as part of the onboard experience, with a focus on hearty, seasonal and locally inspired food. Depending on the itinerary, guests may also fish, prepare fresh catch or take part in outdoor cooking over open fire.
Yes. Solo travellers, couples and small groups are welcome. The expedition format is intentionally intimate and shared, which makes it well suited to guests travelling alone who are comfortable becoming part of a small group for the week.
The current minimum age is 13, subject to suitability and screening for the chosen expedition. Families with teenagers can therefore join when the activity level and conditions are appropriate.
Current prices are NOK 75,000 per person for Bottom Of The Food Chain, NOK 70,000 per person for Spirit of Shackleton, and NOK 65,000 per person for Summer Rewilding. Each expedition is seven days and six nights. Please see the individual expedition page for the latest inclusions and departure information.
A mobile catamaran basecamp combines accommodation, transport and access in one platform. It allows the group to wake up in remote fjords, move with weather and wildlife, reach places without roads and still return to a warm, comfortable base after outdoor activities.
There are easier holidays.
